Default Break-in Period?

Hi,

I didn't know about the break-in period for the 08 Accord lx-p. Man, I was doing hard acceleration when I was driving around for the first 40 miles. When I acclerated, I would go up to 4500 rpm. The highest speed I've gone so far is 75 miles per hour. Will this do any damage to my car? Should i be worried?

Yes, it will only last around 200,000 miles now [sm=hiya.gif]
Just follow the manual for the remainder of the break in period.

Most people will tell you there is no break-in period. Just keep the Honda break-in oil as long as the manual says. But,It was put to me this way by a good mechanic. You are making the surfaces inside the motor and trans that it will need to run on the rest of its life make um good.

200,000 miles now? lol. What would be the actual milage if I followed the rules from the beggining?

So, basically, I have nothing to worry about as long as I do what I need for the break-in period and keep the break-in oil?

I want my Accord to last for at least 15 years. Do you think it'll last that long (Accord in general)?

My 95 was going strong when i totaled it at 233,000 miles and 13 years. It really depends on how much you drive a year.

Wow. 233,000 miles!!! Sorry for it being totaled. I bet it would have lasted even longer. This is one reason why I decided to get an Accord. It last longer than other manufactuer.

Yep, but it all depends on how you drive it. The first 189,000 miles of my Accord were driven by my mom with all maintenance done by Honda.

So true! Proper maintenance will do wonders. Back in high school a friend got a brand new accord and he ran the heck out of it. The accord is still around with 160,000 miles or so (rebuilt trans though...darn 6th gen trans). You should be fine.

When I bought my S, the break in period was 600 miles. No VTEC or hard acceleration until after that. I followed it to a 'T'. I have no oil burn in my S after 6 years. Other S owners burn oil and many of those didn't follow the break in period. Make your own conclusions.

Fast forward 6 years and I buy the Accord. My Honda salesman tells me the same thing for break in. I followed it to a 'T' and have no oil burn as of yet, but I haven't had this one very long.
