Is the Civic Si on Par with the 4cyl Accord?
When i was buying my accord (2.4L Coupe, 5 sp), I drove the Si Sedan first. I ended up driving the Si twice, because I couldn't decide between the two cars. I knew the Si was a performance, or "enthusiast" car, and I liked that. I really loved the sound of the exhaust and the handling was crisp, but I was really disappointed with the engine. It felt completely lifeless below 6K RPMs, like a regular Civic. Then at 6K there was a nice punch, but 2K later, it was over and bouncing off the rev limiter. So I ended up liking the Accord's fairly torquey (in comparison) engine that had much better linear acceleration, and I chose that. Driven side by side, the Accord felt at least as fast as the Si Sedan, if not slightly stronger. So I'm wondering if these two cars are on par acceleration wise, or am I just completely wrong there. I couldn't find a 0-60 time or 1/4 time for the 5 sp Coupe, so I couldn't compare them in those terms. And I've seen anywhere from 7.1s to 8.4s for the 0-60 on the Si Sedan. Any thoughts?

Holy crap....that's a testimony for the Accord's power.
the civic si comes with the k20 engine...rating 197 hp mated to a 6 speed manual tranny
the accord lx coupe comes with the k24 engine....rating a mere 166 mated to a 5 speed manual tranny (in your case)
si is also lighter than the accord coupe. but you're feeling the torque...the civic's downfall is torque and the si is no other. (139 vs. 160 ft lbs)
also....the max power comes at lower RPMs. (7800 vs 5800[max hp], 6200 vs 4000 [torque])

Yeah, on paper the Si would seem faster. But, try thinking of it this way. Add the torque and hp together, then divide by 2. This gives you 163 for the Accord and 168 for the Civic Si. That's what these cars are averaging for hp and torque, so you can see, they're a lot closer than you think. Plus, in the case of the Si Sedan, it is only lighter than the Accord by just over 50 lbs.

One more thing to add, even though the Si has an average of 168, it doesn't make that hp until very late in the powerband, whereas the Accord is making all of it's torque and hp much sooner, therefore when you're running down the road, the acceleration is happening sooner. It'd be interesting to see a matchup between the two cars. And for the weights I was talking about the 5 sp Coupe which is the lightest accord, an EX 4 door automatic would be a couple hundred pounds heavier.

Yeah, it should be a face-off. But no car mag would compare those two cars because they're in different categories. The Si always gets compared to the GTI, WRX, Cobalt SS, etc.
I liked the sound on the Si motor though, I wish the Accord was tuned like that, but it's designed for a different buyer. Honestly, if the Si had been the same price to lease, I would have had a hard time choosing, but it was almost 70 dollars more a month to lease the Si vs. the Accord LX b/c of the lease specials even though the MSRP is very close.

Well...according to the thread author he found that the Si sedan 0-60 time ranges between 7.1 to 8.4s.
I've timed my Accord and it goes 0-60 in 7.4s. Granted my Accord have undergone some modifications....but the Si is like a less restricted form of VTEC only kicking in above 6000 rpm.
