03Sleeper
The OP is wrong and so is edmunds (where he got the data from) as C&D states that a "A 0-to-60 run takes 6.7 seconds"
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...-civic-si.html
that's just .3 seconds slower than a stock CL type S

Another thing to consider is that Honda's cars are generally not geared towards fast acceleration, but rather taking corners and maintaining a good exit speeds, but if you need to know I have drag raced my friend's si and lost and I've also lost to my friend's gsr which has around 178 bhp, so, the weight in the accord does hold it back greatly

RE: Is the Civic Si on Par with the 4cyl Accord?
"the current 198HP civic SI is SIGNIFICANTLY faster than the I4 accord......... more HP + less weight + better gearing = no contest "
Having driven both, I can tell you that's not true. The Si only makes 139 lb of torque, and those 198 horses don't kick in until 6500 rpms. Looking at those peak hp numbers is deceptive without seeing the whole hp/torque line from the dyno. Also, best case, the Si sedan will beat the accord by three tenths of a second to 60. Car and Driver has the Accord sedan at 7.5s to 60, and the Si clocks in at 7.1s. That's definitely not "significantly" faster.

having run against both in a stock S I can tell you with out a doubt that the Civic Si smokes any stock I4 accord and can take out quite a few of the V6's. Obviously you did somethin' wrong when you were driving the SI 65. second car is without a doubt FASTER than 8-10 sec car (depending upon trim level)
fact is a lighter car with MORE HP is faster than a heavier car with LESS HP.
Please do not argue, the facts do not back up what you are saying.

Easy there Yeu. With this comparison, I agree with you, but SandMan is correct in saying that the numbers don't tell the whole story. The shape of the torque curve will indicate acceleration speed much better than the peak values. Also, like you mentioned, the weight has a huge effect on the car's performance. Finally, the tranny can make or break a car. I've taken cars that I shouldn't have been able to because we were at the right speed for my car to be faster.
That being said, my best friend's EP3 SI is faster than my V6 at all speeds up to about 110 mph.

Okay, bud, you are obviously getting your numbers wrong b/c the new 2007 Accords are not 8-10 second cars. Yes, the automatic 4 door will do 8.6s. But the 5 spd 4 door will do 7.5s and the coupe (less 100 lbs) will do it slightly faster. So we're talking about 7.4s or better for the coupe 5 spd, and the Si clocks in about 7.2s optimistically. That's 2 tenths of a second between the two cars. The Si sedan is only about 60 lbs lighter than the Accord Coupe, so the weight difference is negligable. And, more HP doesn't equal better performance. Look at the new 335i BMW, for example. It makes far less HP than the new M3, but because of it's torque advantage it's nearly as quick. They're calling it the new M3 killer. You have to look at both torque and HP, not just the peak HP numbers. Torque is what makes a car go, hp is just a function of torque. My 1996 Eclipse had the same peak hp as the Si, but it would do 0-60 in 6.4 seconds (much faster than the Si) because it made 210 lb/feet of torque. The Si only makes 139.

same discussion occured when the e46 models came out. "oh man, that 325i is almost as quick as the e36 m3! why buy an m3?'
just wait for the e92 m3.
and for the record, i drove a 335i last weekend while i was at the dealer. might be just as quick, but nowhere near as fun. too refined.
however, its a good choice if the m3 is out of range.
