Default DEP Police

Just curious, anyone living in the new york area, you know those cop cars and DEP officars with the DEP symbol (department of enivromental protection) can give speeeding tickets and traffic violations. Are they even eqipped with a radar gun?

I doubt they can ticket you, but they might be able to pull you over, if you do something other than speeding, and call for the police to ticket you.

Yea i dont think the DEP is even affiliated with the NYPD. If its not a traffic violation or a criminal offense they cant pull you over. I think there around for people dumping toxic chemicals at parks or things like that. They may hastle you to throw you tissue in the trashif you just threw it on the ground. As far as sitting on the side of the road and targeting people for speeding, no i dont think there doing that.

see thats what i thought, my brother got pulled over last night by one of these guys and gave him a speeding ticket for going 85 in 55. My brother went insane on the cop, first of all my brother doesnt even drive like me, he would never go 85 unless racing someone, otherwise the highest i ever could see him going is 70 maybe 75. he swore by his life that he wasnt going 85 but 70. Anyway my brother got in a fight(oral) saying he couldnt give him a ticket, becuase for one he was a new york city cop and he got pulled over in westchester. And second he DEP. #3 he doesnt even have a radar. So my bother is going to court to fight the ticket. Its werid, i never worried when i saw DEP police. Ill let you guys know what happens in court which is at the end of the month.

The DEP Police have full authority to issue tickets anywhere in the NYC Watershed.

See this link: http://www.nyc.gov/html/law/downloads/pdf/pr051205.pdf

Also something to consider is in some instances a cop can issue a ticket by pacing your speed and doesn't need a radar. Arguing with the cop probably will not help his case much.

that is called VASCAR and he was to be certified to do it. Also most of the time the first 15 or so times he pulls some one over using ti the ticket gets thrown out

They might be able to pull you over but i think you would have to be running over small animals on purpose.
