Majority of the time 4cyls have shorter gear ratios than v6's that plays a huge part in being quick that and being lighter (power to weight ratio) Most 4cyls have a higher rev limit than the v6 b/c 4cyls but don't make as much tq.
(this is talking about all motor engines for the most part) So when the engine has a lower red line and more low end power they came with longer gear ratios. Now you see since 03’ the 6 speed v6. They shorten up the gears to be faster and still have the same MPH vs. the older 5 speeds with longer gears. It also has to do with gas mileage…you still have short gears for in town driving and also have the 6th gear for hwy use. Honda kinda made it fair game for you v6 guys to have the ability to hang with us DOHC guys. Even now from what I have read they have come out for K series guys is 3 stage SOHC vtec cam. It’s a SOHC vtec camshaft that does the job of 3 different camshafts all in one. You get the valve angles like the f22a head does for great air flow rate. You also get the advantage of having a f22b1 midrange vtec camshaft profile along with a DOHC cam profile like f20b cams. This is assuming you know how SOHC and DOHC vtec works. I would imagine they will do the same for you v6 guys if they haven’t already.

That explains a lot, though not being a mechanic, most of it went over my head.
Well, truthfully I test drove a Mitsi one time. Rougest riding cracker box out there. The stock exhaust was noisy and intolerable. The extremely rough ride loosened my fillings. I would much rather have my super zippy smooth Accord than a cracker box with a conastoga wagon ride that does 0-100 in two seconds. A Mitsi is a car purchase and mistake IMO, but a Honda is an investment in quality.

Yes sir, a good car. I did some experimenting, found out my acceleration is better in D3 and turn the a/c off. We're doing 105 degrees here daily with weather. Guess using D3 eliminates some gear changes. Sure is better that way if I need extra power. Had 'er at 70 per while ago in town before I knew it. I put a bumper hugging Caddy way back in my rear view before I knew it. Glad no cops were out-lol!

when in d3 your trans will not shift into 4th gear thats all it does nothing more or less. When at a higer speed it just keeps you in your power band.

For an 06 Accord should have a 5sp with lock-up auto, so in D3 you actually lock out off 4th,5th and even lock up.
