I have to admit, if I want to really modify a car it's not going to be a Honda. But as for the reliability and the overall "fun to drive" aspect, I would buy another Honda any day of the week.

I have had two Accords, the previous was a 95. I only changed that because someone went through a red light in front of my wife.
I had a 94 Civic Coupe (built in the US) and my wife a 96 Civic hatchback. Both these we owned from new. She now has a 98 Mazda MX5 (Miata) which she has had from new.
I think Honda's are generally smart cars and very reliable. In the UK though it tends to be older generation that own them.
Mind you I am (just) on the wrong side of 40 myself but have owned them since my early 30's
