Default Honda Tech

A few people have been asking me exactly what it means to be a Honda Certified Tech. I'd assume that after you are an ASE certified mechanic that you have some written tests from Honda, but I wanted the real answer. So ....... I'd appreciate feedback from techs only. Thanks!

You do your ASE Tests, get hired by Honda, go through their training. Same with any manufacturer.

I'm not a tech nor ASE certified, but my brother is ASE certified and has applied to a few dealierships and thats what the usual case was. Especially with company's like BMW, Porsche, etc that have their own high tech training programs. They pay for you to go through it, but you pay them back.

Does that specialized training involve any written tests?

A Honda certifed tech means that you go to their training classes , depending on the subject some are longer than others , at the end you have to take written tests + the instructor booby traps cars with different problems and you got to find the issues and show him the fix .
each class that you complete you get a certificate for that particular topic , once you complete all of the courses you become a Honda master tech,
Now, when new cars and technology come about, you have to go to their updated classes to stay on top of all the new stuff
when i was at the dealer they paid for everything, including my average weekly salary , for me it was like a vacation ,,,.techs at dealership take turns on going to classes ..
The Honda classes i went to were in Milwakee Wisc < I use to live in wisc,, ), Denver, Torrance ,, when i moved to Arizona..
As for ASE certification Honda never use to care much about it since ASE was on general automotive mostly american ..
A tech could be ASE certified and know sqwat about a Honda . but more and more HONDA Dealers and other Shops have been pushing to have the techs also be ASE certified

reason being,,, looks good to hang those certificate on the walls when customers come in the service area looking around ,, customer feel more reassured to take a car to a shop that advertices that they have ASE certified techs ..
