Insurance...

RE: Insurance...
I'm 22 with a perfect record. I'm on my own policy with a brand new accord and pay $1,900 a year (full coverage with a $500 deductible).
I think that a pretty damn good deal (and yes I have the student discount) considering I was paying $1,200 for just liablility for my 98 accord (which was registered in my dads name and it was on his insurance policy).
I was also told that if I wanted to stay on my dads policy, that his name would have to be on the registration. So I feel for you there.

RE: Insurance...
interesting that ins companies still charge males more than females, when just in the last 1-2 yrs a study came out that totally said women, by far, are involved in more accidents, and are at fault, more often then males. It was a huge margin. it was reported on all 3 network stations. so why are males still charged a higher preimium, for no other reason than being non-female?
the July issue of
Epidemiology, found that although teenage boys started off badly, with
about 20 percent more crashes per mile driven than teenage girls,
males and females between ages 20 and 35 were equally at risk of being
involved in a crash, and after age 35 female drivers were at greater
risk of a crash than their male counterparts.â€

RE: Insurance...
It's only young males that are charged more than females.
Once you either turn 25 or get married, you are charged the same as a woman will be charged.
Trust me, insurance companies know what they are doing....
But I have always wondered.....isn't that discrimination? Kind of like the "women only" gyms? Why do you have to answer the question "Male or Female?" What if you are a hermaphrodite? Do you put a check mark in both boxes?

RE: Insurance...
I would assume that insurance companies fall under the same laws as as restraunt when it comes to discrimination policies.... ever noticed the "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" signs in a store?
Just a random thought.... I'm pretty sure that private party companies have more leeway in that area than an employer or gov. agency....

RE: Insurance...
Yeah you are right. Sometimes I forget about that. That is definitely a good thing IMO.
On the other hand....what if they charged black people more for insurance than they charge white people? Don't you think Jessie Jackson would be suing them all?
