Late evening in the AOR...just landed from an all night and all day mission. We took off around 10:00 at night and flew until the sun came up....landing as the sun was going down. It was a long day, but I saw the opportunity for a picture as we were loading up on the crew bus back to the operations shack and took this....sean

Spruce. Goose.
Taken at the Evergreen Air Museum, McMinnville Oregon. Originally meant to transport US troops to Europe during WWII, it never flew in operation as the war ended before it could be put into service. Howard Hughes was famously called before congress to answer charges of profiteering due to the amount of money invested in the project. It flew one time, with Hughes at the controls. It didn't fly far, nor for long but it flew. Which really, is all he had to prove. Funny thing is, he and his engineers pioneered a great many modern features on the Spruce Goose. Artificial feel for the flight controls for one. Laminant wood construction for another. While not specifically military, it was intended to be so......sean

Hey!! Thanks for posting those! I had hoped others would contribute but seems like that's not been the case. I'd thought there were more military, ex or retired on here who'd be all over this thread. Oh well....thanks for sharing.....sean
