Radar detectors in Florida
There is some proposed legislation in Florida tooutlaw the use of radar detectors. Big Brother is at it again:
Legislation: SB 2228
STATE OF FLORIDA
INTRODUCED FEBRUARY 26, 2007
Sponsored by: Senator STEPHEN OELRICH
DISTRICT 14
SYNOPSIS
General Bill by Oelrich
Speed-measuring Devices: prohibits use of devices that detect or interfere with speed-measuring devices used by law enforcement agencies; provides that enforcement must be secondary; provides penalties. Creates 316.1907.
The proposed Bill states "A driver may not operate a motor vehicle on a street or highway in this state if the vehicle is equipped with a device that is in operating condition and readily accessible for use by the driver or any passenger and that detects, jams, or otherwise interferes with the operation of a radar, as defined in s. 316.1906, operated by a law enforcement officer."

RE: Radar detectors in Florida
I thinkthe whole banning of the radar detector isstupid. I've talked to my friends dad who is a cop and he is always saying how its too late for a radar detector to pick up the gun. That by the time it goes off they have hit you and you done. So if this is really the case ( i have herd the same thing from others as well) then why do they care if you have a detector,if its really too late ?

RE: Radar detectors in Florida
i live in florida too and if they pass that legislature im royally screwed. i ALWAYS speed and ive only recently been using a detector. amazingly i have yet to get a ticket.
from what i've read (and have seen myself) the city cops use lidar and highway cops use radar. its almost impossible to hide a car from lidar, unless u put a couple jammers under ur hood/bumper; but u can defnitely get around radar.
i think detectors are the one thing u cant go cheap on. id rather pay a few hundred bucks one time for a detector than pay 150-200 bucks everytime i get a ticket.
i borrowed my friends escort on a road trip a few days ago and it actually had really good range. i didnt run into any cops (b/c of weather) but they had some radar signs out and i was picking it up about 2 miles away, PLENTY of time to slow down.

Yeah but you know if the cop has a radar detector detecor, and your radar detector is supposed to have a radar detector detector detector, then the cops will probably pretty soon be getting radar detector detector detector detectors! Ha ha I'm not making fun at all marbro, you probably understand exactly what I am talking about! I was looking into this a while back when I was trying to finad a radar detector. One of the sales pitches was like "cops now have detectors that can detect your radar detector, so we made this radar detector be able to detect those cops radar detector detectors."
