Proof of insurance? You don't need insurance in NH.

When you buy a new car you get a title, but after 15 years it is no longer necessary.

No insurance??? Thats insane... You cant even walk into our dmv without a proof on insurance(jk) LOL... But seriously that is awesome... That title thing still boggles my mind... Id just wonder how you would register a nh car in another state...

You can apply for a title if you don't have one if you were say moving to another state.

We can also own assault rifles, drum mags, fireworks, and its all sales tax free.

And I forgot, don't have to wear a seatbelt or a helmet.

Thats bada$$ for sure... Personal property taxes are the devil... Its hell for that stuff here...

Lucky you... I would never ride without a helmet, IMO thats the most ignorant thing anyone could ever do... Ive seen too many accidents for that... The seatbelt thing is awesome though... Cops here have like a sixth sense for people not wearing seatbelts...

I kinda respect the freedom about the helmet & seatbelt laws. But I'd never drive without a seatbelt. Never ride my bike without a helmet either. Still, fewer laws is generally better.

Uhh, don't have all the answers, because I never bought or sold a car before (I bought this from my ex-husband for a dollar,) but insurance isn't technically required in NH. o.O If we're caught driving in another state that requires insurance, and we don't have it, we're subject to their laws. Also, I believe that the "catch" is that you don't need to get it if you have the financial means to cover all expenses incurred if you cause an accident, but otherwise you're technically supposed to. At least that's my understanding.

We do get titles for cars 14 years old and younger. For older, we also have a form, "Verification of Vehicle Identification." A cop comes by, checks the VIN, fills out the form, signs it, and that's supposed to be it. I think you also need that form to get a title for a non-titled car, if you lost the title, etc.

re: guns

In NH, you can just walk into a gun store, plop down cash, and walk out of the store with a gun. No checks, no waiting period, no license, no permit (you do need a permit to carry concealed or in your car.) But I walk 500 ft. into the state of Maine, and I'm SCREWED without a license and permit and an ear tag and an "Inspected by no. 18" stamp on my forehead...

And no, we don't have any particular gun-related problems, at least here on the seacoast. It's like a state-wide news event if someone shoots someone else in the commission of a crime. Getting shot in the *** while hunting...well, that's not any big news, haha.

re: seatbelts

I always wear my meatbelt, no matter what the law. (I call it a "meatbelt," because that's what you become if you don't wear one.)

Wow, this turned into an interesting thread!

After reading this, I have some thoughts:
I would never deal with anyone that wouldn't tell me their name. If they called me about an ad I had, but refused to tell me their name, i would hang up on them.
The title thing blew my mind too. In Mississippi, you have to have a title on everything, no matter how old it is.
Does the law say you have to have a notarized bill of sale to sell a car?

Only if the car's titled (14 years and younger.) It's needed for transfer of title and subsequently registration, as I understood the website now.

Connecticutt is like that, too, with everything titled, registered, insured, taxed...omg. My sister's husband has a Mustang, a Dodge truck, a boat (aka a hole in the water you throw money into,) and a camper that goes on the back of the truck. Plus the mini van and an old, old, old Cougar that wouldn't be on the road if they did state inspections there. They pay almost five GRAND a year on them all! Plus all 4 vehicles are insured. To me, that's crazy, crazy, crazy!
