Sticking finger in between belt & pulley... bad idea?
So, I have a 1998 Honda Accord I'm fixing up for my niece. Car is great, I love everything about it.
What I noticed is that there's this very pronounced pulley sitting right there on top of the engine, spinning away... That's the power steering pump pulley, obviously.
I wondered what would happen if, during normal idling, I took my index finger and just brazenly stuck it right between the belt and pulley?
Would the belt 'give' enough to just grab my finger and roll it around about 180 degrees, but otherwise simply deposit it out the other side? ..or....
Would I savagely lose the tip of my finger in a gory blood spray?
Now, I know this sounds silly but I'm pretty sure a whole lot of people here have wondered the exact thing. I mean, I think we all THINK we know the answer but do we, really?
No, I will not try it and no I will not shoot video of the event.

I guess what Bill Cosby says is true; the mind and the body simply don't get along. Your brain is saying, "Gee, wouldn't it be a cool trick to stick my finger in there and see what happens." Meanwhile your finger is saying, "No, man, leave the pulleys alone man, just walk away and leave me out of your hair brain ideas."

Some things are just not too smart, even though they might seem like a good idea at the time.
This guy thought it would be OK to drink and drive.
Actually he didn't ever get convicted of the hit and run death of the girl, just the part about driving while impaired. Then he gets early release just to P.O. the parents.

On a scale between sticking your finger into a belt sander vs. sticking your finger in a meat grinder??
My guess is that it WOULD give enough to grab your finger and run it around the pulley. Also resulting in severe crush injuries, dislocated knuckle, and probably broken bones. It may or may not derail the belt from that pulley.
Ever see the video of a guy changing the belt on a running aircooled VW engine? He used a screwdriver, not his finger.

Well, it can't possibly be very dangerous. I mean, that pulley and belt is sitting right up there prominently on top of the engine, and there's no safety guard, and there's no warning labels with a few paragraphs about the dangers of touching spinning pulleys.

Seriously? Personally I'll lay odds that the finger will be permanently disabled if not completely removed from the hand.

ok, this post has to be a joke or someone's attempt at humor. Either that, or someone is fishing for a lawsuit.
There's also not warning labels on electric outlets either, but we all understand the danger.
