Most common issues on that car is the main relay (easy fix) causes problems and doesn't like to start in warm weather or the speedometer quits working.... things to ask about, when was the timing belt done? Did they do the water pump at the same time? Who does the service work on it?

the main question to ask yourself, is what you are looking for in the car, daily driver, show piece, racer, passenger room, luggage room etc.

sir nasty answered some of your other questions

as for millage it depends somewhat on the use again, if you commute far distances and put alot of miles on a year i wouldnt by a car with say like 175-200 thousand miles, but if you just drive a short distance it wouldnt be such a bad thing.

or if you planned a engine swap it wouldnt really matter what condition the engine was in.

also I don't recommend buying a car in that year with ABS, its over 1000.00 just to replace the abs pump, this means all EX's and some LX's and SE's, In 1998 the replaced the abs system as to be less costly
