1) Use punctuation!
2) Add coupe or sedan to your signature
3) There is no "best" performance part whether you are talking about shocks, springs, ignition, etc. It depends on what you want.
4) Does "worsed road conditions in missouri" mean sharp turns or badly maintained road. If the roads are falling apart, a high performance damper could make the drive uncomfortable.
5) How much money are you looking to spend? There are a lot of options for suspension work.
6) If you want better handling and response, I always recommend bars before suspension. They are much cheaper and you might find that they are all that you need. Strut bars, tie bars, Anti-sway bars and any other chasis support bars that they make for your car. Other than the Anti-sway bars (often called Sway Bars), you can go pretty cheap. My lower tie-bar was 20 bucks from ebay and is fine.

Maybe new bushings would help. You started me thinking about the car I bought last month, and what it might need. Shocks and bushings came to mind right off, as well as exhaust straps. I will look for some today and post any positive findings.
