Eibach spring upside down..help?

RE: Eibach spring upside down..help?
Thanks guys...
I Turned to spring over and now it is in its right place...took no time...but im still concerned about the "clanking" noise in the back over rough roads...
My first thought was the spring being upside down, but now thats fixed, and it still does it, maybe even more...
Then i thought it might be my bushings ?
is that logical ?
im sure the bushings have never been replaced since the shocks and springs had also never been replaced before now...
If it is bushings and its making that noise (maybe due to the lowering of the car), then how much longer can I ride on them before they need to be replaced??

When it's cool, see if your exhaust can move some, move it from the tip, and move it from the b-pipe...
when your suspension stiffens, then chances are you'll find stuff doesn't move as elegantly as it used to..
also, when you did the install, were the bushings in good condition? if so, i don't think they'd be making these noises..
might also check the sway endlinks and bushings as they are known to rumble when deteriorating.

Well One of the metal pieces in one of the bushings was split down the side but the rubber bushings themselves all around are fine....
It obviously has to be some thing to do with the lowered suspension...maybe more stress on a certain part ? but the sound it something like metal metal hitting metal kind of clanking sound...almost like and older truck with the leaf spring suspension rattling kinda sound
But it didnt make this noise at all before the install of kyb shocks and eibach springs...Sooo....

John ..... that description almost brought a tear to my eye ...... you should start a thread for extreme technical discussions and link these general threads to your posts there ..... in a month or so we'll have the auto physics encyclopedia!!! And how the heck do you pull these descriptions from the top of your head?!? I mean, I also know the material that you talk about, but to put it all in writing would take me some time. Remember the optics discussion? That was a 5 hour response!!!!

I hope it was a tear of technical joy, and not a tear of long suffering despair!
I know some people think much of my writing is techno-wanking and not useful to them, but I reckon that's their problem not mine! It's easy and enjoyable to write becauseI find it interesting stuff, though it's not always quick. I just gather together things I've picked up over the years and also apply some logical thought to problems and puzzles. Some is of the top of my head, but some is nutting something new out based on what I already know.
I don't remember the optics discussion, must be before my time here. 5 hours to write a post, that's an impressive effort, butI think I could top that with a few posts I've made on ekartingnews.com discussing the theory and nature of weight transfer with regard to roll centre behaviour etc . Now there's a topic for a rainy day!

RE: Eibach spring upside down..help?
I just did my suspension last weekend, and as far as your clanking noise goes, I would double check that the spring is seated properly in the top spring seat/mount and that the coil spring isolator is in there. I would also check to see that the strut rod bushings are still in place and that you used all three washers when putting the topmount back on. I missed the lower of the three when I did the rear but figured it out when I did the front.
I'm also wondering about what was so difficult about that lower bolt? Is this the same side as the noisy spring?
