Default How to replace upper rear strut mount..HELP

I posted a while ago about the rearend jumping around and making a wierd noise. I finally took it to a shop and they pointed out that the right rear strut and upper mount need replaced.

How hard is this for a do-it-yourselfer? I've replaced struts but never a mount. The shop quoted me a price of around $180 plus tax, is this about average for a repair like this?

Thanks in advance for any/all help.

It's just a piece of rubber. If you've replaced struts for you it should be a cake walk.

Well, the mount needs to be removed to replace the struts, so I'm guessing you haven't done a strut replacement on this car before? Either way, its pretty straightforward. Also: The mount itself needs to be replaced? or just the strut rod bushing set and maybe the coil spring isolator?

Correct, I've never done the struts on this car before. The shop told me the upper strut mount needs replaced, hell I don't know.

All I can see is the top of the strut is very, very loose. I can push the bar up and down (strut is gone) and the rubber piece is out of the strut tower.

If it's that easy to do, why is this shop trying to charge me $200 to basically replace a strut? Sounds a little odd to me.

They sure were trying to. I found a local mechanic that did the job for $40, of course I bought the parts.

The rearend doesn't jump around anymore and the ride is niiice.
