Default 215/55/16 instead of 205/60/16?

I really need to get new tires, as I have wasted the tires on my 07 Accord SE. I was on tires.com and they recommended an upgrade to 215/55/16 if I wanted to go a little wider, which I do.

My question is: Has anyone had any experience with going a little wider on stock rims? I'm assuming it will be fine, just wanted to double check make sure they wont rub, etc.

Thanks in advance.

The stockies are 205s arent they?, if so, youll be fine. The offset on Honda stock wheels are so high (+55) that its nearly impossible to get anything to rub.

I increased the width by 10mm on my accord without changing the sidewall size. The handling got worse.

So you think I should just stick with the 205's? I think by decreasing the sidewall a bit and increasing the contact patch, handling "should" get better. The speedo might be a little off though...[sm=badidea.gif]???

Sway bars would be cheaper than new tires that might disappoint you for the next 50k miles...

I know this is true, as when I changed the sway bars on my Corolla, the thing handled incredible! But I need to get new tires anyway, so I figure I might as well get something a little wider now...

The added width provides the sidewall with a greater variance from vertical allowing more deflection on hard cornering. This effect was greater than the extra holding ability of the tread patch.

So in other words, if I want to go wider, get bigger/wider rims...

I'm like you and wanted to find some wider tires without going up in rims since I have limited cash. I have bridgestone potenza re960 pole positions in size 225/55r 16's on the stock 16 in. rims from the factory and am super happy. They fit perfectly fine, never rub, have a big enough sidewall for a nice ride, and it handles WAY better compared with my last set of tires in the rain, snow, and dry. Falkore and Finch know what they're talking about so going their route is definately gonna work, just thought i'd help you save a little cash if you were still looking into just getting better tires.
