Default RE: Brake light on after shoe change?

It also sounds a lot like the handbrake cables need to be tightened in the center console, but check the auto adjusters first. I would see how difficult it is to get the drums off again (they should be somewhat snug on the shoes). If they aren't, go ahead and turn the adjusters to push the shoes out so there is a little resistance when you put the drum on.

When the handbrake lever is down all the way it pushes a switch in the console that opens the circuit, thus keeping the light turned off. When you lift up on the lever, a spring in the switch pushes the circuit closed and turns on the light, indicating that the emergency brake is on.

If the car isn't braking normally (feels weak):
- Check to make the rear shoes are adjusted to barely touch the drum, this way you get the maximum amount of force against the drum.
- If that doesn't work, bleed the rear brakes, starting with the passenger side.

If braking feels a-okay:
- Check the e-brake switch (You have to remove cup holders and black trim around the shifter) and see that it is properly engaging/disengaging with the handle, you can bend it to make it work.
