Default Pitted Brake Dust

2003 HA with factory rims. I really want to remove the corrosion found on the rims (all 4). Will this require new rims or can this be removed:

I had that on some rims. I cleaned it up, peeled back the clear coat far enough so it was solid, then polished the aluminum. Then I used clear-coat touch-up paint (DupliColor I think). Didn't turn out all that nice, it was far from invisible. But I guess it helped prevent it from getting worse.

I think the only way to really fix it, is to remove ALL the clearcoat from the entire wheel & repaint it.

I found someone that charges 50.00 a wheel and he will refinish them. Wondering if anyone here has done this and what should i be looking for? In other words, the correct way to refinish rims?

Strip it and repaint it yourself.

Get some aircraft paint remover, put index cards between the tire and rim all the way around, paint and clear coat. People rattle can their wheels all the time w/ great results

Ive done this as Tyler says also..works pretty darn good..just take your time and they will come out pretty good...as long as the wheels are not cracked it will work well...

Yeah, with PAINT. I've painted a set of wheels with real good results. But I've never been able to do that (& make it look nice) with ONLY clear coat over polished aluminum.

Use good paint, not that cheap 1$ cans at walmart(or else you will more than likely have an uneven look to it). Aircraft remover is the best way to strip the wheels down. 50 dollars a wheel is not a bad price, but you can do all the stripping yourself and save yourself some money. Do you have a local powdercoating shop? I had our local shop powdercoat the BBS wheels I had on my vette the same color as the car for 100 dollars.
