restoring alloy wheels
wanted you guys opinion. Purchased some factory 7 spoke wheels for my 97 Accord and they are in need of some help and love. I was gonna take them to a tire spot to have them restored until someone told me that I could do the same job myself and save nearly 500 dollars. Is that true ? also, what products would be needed

Are they polished metal with clear coat? Or painted?
Painted, you can touch them up just like touching up the car's paint. You might have trouble finding matching paint, but check out "auto-body supplies" in your phone book for places that can mix up paint for you.
Polished & clearcoated - I tried fixing some like that & it was a disaster. I even talked to someone who runs a good body shop & he said those are real difficult. So if you have any luck with that, I'd be interested to know about it.

I had a set of polished and cleared wheels on my first Accord that were like that (in need of touching up). What I did was took a dye grinder with a wire wheel to them. It stripped off the clear and gave the wheels a brushed aluminum look (well, that's actually what it was). They came out lookin' pretty cool......and it didn't cost me anything. I don't know if you want to do that, but it's definitely an option.
