Default tire problems

just installed 185-65-14 handkooks 727 on my 1992 accord lx coupe. OEM tire size was 185 70 14. What a big mistake. handling is so bad when making a quick lane change doing 75mph the car lags behind. steering is slow. rear end has a fishtail effect. I did have some improvement jacking up the tire pressure to 36psi but of course I get a harsh ride. Either the tires suck or moving to a wider tire is balooning the sidewall past the acceptable wheel width. 26k on the car. Still had the orginal tires on the car, but the had heavy cracks on thread and sidwalls. Thinking i should have put the oem size back on. Any ideas.

185/70-R14 to 185/65-R14
You didn't change the width. You simply went to a shorter sidewall. Still, I'm surprised it made that much difference because the tire size isn't that much different.

That’s what I was thinking too Jim...but I didn’t know so I didn't post lol
Maybe some of your suspension components are worn out that’s why you get the lag?...Jim will be more helpful on that more than I would

thanks for the feedback. another issue with going to a smaller size tire is the change in engine rpm's and speedometer calibrations. With the oem tires my gps indicated 3 mph faster, now its like 5 to 6 mph difference while moving at 75 mph. rpm's are reving 3500 compared to 3000 prior. You could be correct with worn suspension components. I think because the tires are new and stiff with very little flex and the vehicle is old and struts possible weak, something has to give. If you can compare it to a water coming out of a garden hose. You move the direction of the water nozzle fast, the water will lag behind. But what do I know. I think lowering the tire pressures a little at a time may help the condition. thanks again.
