xtreme Road noise in 2008 Honda Accord
I've owned my 2008 Accord for almost a year now.
On highways, depending on the smoothness of the road, the cabin noise can become extremely loud.
Last month I bought some Dynamat Extreme and covered the inside door panels for all 4 doors and the trunk area.
The change in cabin noise was minimal.
I pulled up the back seat and peeled back the carpet and noticed that there was a thick layer of foam under the carpet so I gathered that there is plenty of insulation on the floor area.
I remembered having the door panel off and noticing there was not much metal on the inner skin of the door. Basically the hole was very large, like the picture below.
I'm wondering if the road noise is coming through this rather large hole?

The more I think about it the more I'm betting it is the tire. On smooth roads the cabin noise is tolerable. On rough roads it's annoying.
I bought Kuhmo Escta Platinum tires about 10,000 miles ago. The UTQG rating is 600AA
I'm thinking about changing out to General Altimax HP directional tire with a UTQG rating of 440 AA.
Basically the higher the UTQG the longer the tread life and subsequently the harder the tire.

I had my wife go to Discount Tire the other day because I got the call the General Altimax HP tires I ordered arrived.
When I got home from work I noticed that Discount Tire installed Yokahamas YK580 instead.
It is a little softer tire and I could tell a slight decrease in the road noise on the highway.
Once I get the General Altimax HP tires I will see if the road noise decreases any more.

This car is a piece of crap, I have a 2012 model with incredible road noise on HWY, I don't think the tires will really matter that much, I'd pay 1000 bucks to quiet this thing if someone finds a solution, everybody's saying tires but how do we know if it's gonna work?

Cabin Noise
While there is still a good trade-in value for your car try a Toyota Camry or Avalon (bring a blank check so you can place a deposit). I did & dumped the Accord (in my mind) before the test drive was over.

The General Altimax tires really made a difference in the road noise. It's not super quiet in the cabin but a noticeable difference.

Fidelito did drive a Camry and stated that the noise was the same.
Update: just back from Toyota dealership here in Richmond Hill Ontario, test drove Camry 2012 SE, this car has the same road noise, the drive wasn't that spectacular, smooth ride, but the Accord has better control and handling, what's worse, they offered to buy the Accord for 18K, I walked out and not going back there
