Default Yokohama Advan Sport 225R18 driving down south in December!??

Driving down to the States mid-December to Cali. I still have my summer tires on (Yokohama Advan Sport 225R18) and am hoping it won't snow till then so I don't have to put on my winters as I don't wanna be down there with my ghetto winter tires and steel rims on. Am staying there till Feb-March or when it's good to drive back up again. Any suggestions plzz??? you think I can make it....slowly..if there's snow?

Is there a compound I could treat the tires with or spray on maybe? chains legal??

I'll guess that you don't have fender clearance for chains on THOSE tires..?

Where starting from? How early in December can it start snowing? Anywhere along your route?

How about temperature? Summer tires get hard & slippery at low temperature (like 32.F) even without any snow.

Mid December, and I guess it's unpredictable. Good call on the temperatures, it'll probably be around that. Don't want to take another set of tires with me especially since I can only fit two in the back and I have other stuff too. Guess I could just put on the winters and sell the summers and buy new ones there..

Well, YOU asked about chains in the original post. I don't know what car you have, but if it's not a real NEW Accord, 225 tires are pretty big. I was guessing that you don't have fender-clearance for chains. Chains are a pain. Horrible noise. Gawd-awful vibration. Scratch up your rims. If they come loose they hammer all the paint off your fenders. There's probably places where they aren't legal.

Try em & let us know how they work. Me, I prefer snow tires.
